COSTA DI BUSSIA - Nebbiolo - Barolo Bussia, Piedmont, ITALY

The power, body and intensity of Barolo. Classic and inviting, spicy with a soft ruby red colour typical of Nebbiolo. It is a powerful wine with big body. From the particularly unique dried rose aromas and fresh fruity and spicy notes, this wine displays excellent harmony of flavours and tannins, which are silky and persistent.

Product Description

The farm Costa di Bussia was founded in 1874 by the farsighted, Knight. Luigi Arnulfo who already had the intuition about the potential and noble destiny of his 11 hectares that make up the Estate today. They would give back great wines, especially with extremely fi ne Barolos. In 1890 Arnulfo shipped his wine (vintage 1883) successfully to San Francisco, a job that we have documented through letters from the Italian Swiss Agricultural Colony importer. This historical document is just one of the 200 letters found in the attic, which makes up the core of the Historical Museum of Luigi Arnulfo inside the farmhouse, and telling this winery’s incredible story!

The lower slopes of the hill, oriented towards the south and west, are destined for the production of a classic Barolo. Here the soil is medium-textured, rich in carbonates with a good balance of nutrients. The sandy component is exceeded by the clay, which is rich in calcium and potassium. The fertility of these vines is somewhat restrained and the alternation of poorer and more fertile areas provides for diversied ripening, which ensures a broad range of sensory qualities

Critique Review

“Interesting nose offering dried black cherries and fresh heather, as well as some darker foresty notes. Medium to full-bodied with firm tannins that add plenty of savory oak notes. Good fruit focus on the palate, but very raw just now. Plenty of time needed to put things in order. Try from 2024.”
