Robert Parker Wine Advocate 93 Points

Probably the most famous and influential wine critic and journalist in the world, Robert Parker founded the famous American magazine, The Wine Advocate and made his 100-point system a benchmark for the entire industry.

The 2017 Zeltinger Schlossberg Riesling Auslese is coolish, precise and flinty on the bright and filigreed nose that reveals its concentration in a subtle and refined way. Lush and generous in its mouth-filling texture but also precise and finessed, this is another Riesling that I just couldn't spit out, swallowed it immediately. This Auslese represents the miracle of the finest Mosel Rieslings: it combines ripe, lush fruit with great finesse, structure and a salty-mineral purity that provides a mouthwatering finish. There is a certain phenolic grip in the finish that will make this an excellent wine to have with food in 10 or 15 years. Tasted in March 2019.

Vineyard Info

Our family has made wine for 400 years and our wine tradition dates back to the 17th century. Our steep slopes produce Riesling wines of top quality, grown in harmony with Nature, entailing lots of time-consuming manual labor, and it is these values we seek to preserve. Our wines are timeless, just like our vineyards. Our wines are made by individualists for individualists, produced by progressive traditionalists for people who are passionate about wine, and who understand and cherish the value of heritage.

The Schlossberg ("castle hill") vineyard slopes are southwest facing, on a rocky slope and is one of the smallest single vineyards in the village of Zeltingen. Chunks of Devonian slate on a layer of finer grained, weathered-down slate mixed with some loam beneath.
