Vineyard Info
Our family has made wine for 400 years and our wine tradition dates back to the 17th century. Our steep slopes produce Riesling wines of top quality, grown in harmony with Nature, entailing lots of time-consuming manual labor, and it is these values we seek to preserve. Our wines are timeless, just like our vineyards. Our wines are made by individualists for individualists, produced by progressive traditionalists for people who are passionate about wine, and who understand and cherish the value of heritage.
Himmelreich (“Kingdom of Heaven”) is the largest of the three single vineyards / crus / appellations in the town of Zeltingen; it stretches from the steep slope behind mid-village, where it borders Schlossberg. The steep part of Himmelreich bordering Schlossberg is of superb quality, facing due south, with chunky slate on top of the deep slate bedrock. As the Mosel meanders towards Uerzig, Himmeleich follows the bend in the river, turns southwest and finally west and becomes continuously less steep while some loam and, further downstream, some alluvial river deposit sits on top of the blue Devonian slate which forms the bedrock beneath.
